Don’t forget the ceiling: Many bathrooms have gorgeous tray or vaulted ceilings that add volume and depth to a small bathroom. If you are one of these fortunate people add lighting above to bring emphasis to this architectural feature. If your ceiling is low you still have great color options. Consider painting it a light complimentary color to the rest of the bathroom to bring the walls visually higher. Are you talented with a painting a mural? A light blue background and subtle clouds will give the illusion that the sky is above… very serene when executed properly. There isn’t any bathroom that will feel small when the sky is open above them!
o Enclosed shower: Especially in guest baths and master bathrooms the ability for guests and/or multiple people to use the bathroom at one time is a must. Enclosed showers give this versatility without users feeling imposed on. Enclosed showers also offer the user more space to store toiletries and often sit down with enclosed benches etc
Bronze is an interesting choice for your bathroom finishes because unlike many other metals it may actually get better with age. This is due to the fact that products labeled as “oil-rubbed bronze” or “hand-rubbed bronze” are not given an external finish to protect them from the elements after manufacturing. Over time use and exposure to the elements will create a unique staining pattern that deepens the aesthetic.
Brass has been around for ages and it’s natural durability combined with that polished shine will give any bathroom a stately look especially when offset with darker hues that make the finish pop. This finish should be a top choice in both the most modern and more traditional spaces.
You don’t have to incorporate every shade of the monochromatic rainbow. It’s possible to focus on creating an ultra-clean white space or to experiment with various hues of gray. Just mix up the space with a few different prints and patterns to keep the room from seeming too one-note.
You don’t have to be as bold in your designs to go as far as the hypnotic mosaic pattern pictured below but patterned tiles are in for 2014 especially mosaics. If you can add a retro flare that’ll be an added bonus but make sure it’s done right so it doesn’t look tacky or quickly dated as is the tendency for many of these designs to fall victim to.
